Position Overview
The Senior Congregation Relations Associate is responsible for contributing to meet the financial goals of congregational fundraising programs, including executing strategies, creating materials, and monitoring campaign metrics. One of the Congregation Relations Officer’s core responsibilities is managing and growing UUSC’s Congregational Liaison network(CL) to strengthen congregational fundraising efforts, deepen the involvement of individual members, and advanceUUSC’s fundraising programs.
The Senior Congregation Relations Associate will advance the strategy with effective tactics for congregational outreach as it relates to the work and programs of the Development Department. They will provide support for the Congregational Liaisons, congregational giving programs and collections, and membership recruitment. In addition to working with the Director of Development for Congregation Relations, Development staff and colleagues throughout UUSC, the SeniorCongregation Relations Associate will collaborate with the Board of Trustees, volunteer and key congregational contacts, and other external stakeholders, to expand congregational and member support. Position includes 15% travel time domestically and possibly occasional international travel.
Key Roles and Responsibilities
Tactical Operations:
- Serve as UUSC’s key point of contact for UUSC volunteers and UU congregations.
- Oversee congregational giving efforts to encourage increased support. Lead the implementation of programssuch as Guest at Your Table and Justice Sunday.
- In conjunction with Development colleagues, the Programs, Advocacy and Action department, and UU congregations, contribute to the creation of major congregational and fundraising programs and lead the implementation of these programs.
- Create program content and promotional materials for congregational giving programs. Manage approval process with PAA, Communications, and coordinate with vendors for services related to these materials.
- Manage and grow the Congregational Liaison (CL) program, expand engagement and support.
- Manage the CL portfolio by developing volunteer resources, providing logistical support, and soliciting and responding to feedback to help ensure the smooth running of congregational funding programs.
- Host informational calls and create regular communications for the CLs.
- In conjunction with the President and Development colleagues, develop tactics and materials to recruit and orient new Congregational Liaisons; prepare and distribute informational packets to prospective congregational representatives.
- Carry out the Guest at Your Table (GAYT) Program and other congregational campaigns.
- Create new Religious Education and Worship materials in collaboration with the Director of Congregation Relations.
- Contribute toward member communications strategies, and develop membership materials for distribution at congregations in conjunction with the Development team and colleagues from the Advocacy and Strategic Communications unit.
Administrative Operations:
- Travel to congregations to assist with congregational giving programs, as needed.
- Work closely with the VP, Development and the Director of Development for Congregation Relations to ensureall congregational giving programs are staffed and supported.
- Represent UUSC at congregation-based speaking events and workshops; promote congregational programs at major fundraising events as needed.
- Manage, oversee, and update congregational and CL data in UUSC’s donor database, including tracking and reporting on congregational income, maintaining up-to-date procedures for congregational data, and managing congregational reports to share externally.
- Develop congregational summary reports in advance of UUSC staff visits to congregations.
- Process weekly gift acknowledgement letters for supporting congregations.
- Interface with and offer on-site UUSC programing for congregational youth groups who are visiting the office.
- Develop, implement and manage a congregation and volunteer recognition program.
- Create and conduct post-program surveys and reviews.
- Perform other relevant duties as assigned.
- At least five years of relevant experience working with volunteers or external constituents required
- Strong interpersonal and customer service skills with people from all backgrounds
- Excellent organizational skills to handle a variety of tasks and projects simultaneously and work independently with minimal instruction
- Highly proficient in written and oral communications skills
- Public speaking and presentation skills
- Ability to administer web-based communication systems
- Demonstrated proficiency with Word, Excel, Access, Salesforce, and Microsoft Office and experience with Survey Monkey, Adobe InDesign, and Pardot (or similar tools)
- Understanding of and strong commitment to UUSC’s mission and values
- Strong understanding of the Unitarian Universalist structure (such as: UU congregations, the UUA, the approach to ministry and faith, and UUA regions) preferred
- Bachelor’s degree required
- Master’s degree preferred
- Able to work some evening hours and weekends as required for events
- Must be able to work from UUSC Cambridge office regularly, as needed
- Must be willing to travel, including weekends approximately 15% and, possibly, internationally

Hybrid employees must be based in MA and within commuting distance to the Cambridge, MA office. This job description does not serve as an employment contract.
